As I embarked on my journey to library school, I was in saw of this here blog. Given my love for writing, I had yearned to write for Hack Library School. Now, over a year later from my first post, I’m signing off as a writer AND Consulting Editor of the blog. Wow! How did that happen?

All I can say is that I have been blessed to be part of this endeavor. It was pleasure working with editors Brenna Murphy and Kristina Williams as well as our outgoing Community Manager Carissa Hansen to make this blog a community and a constant conversation. And that is an understatement. Not only was the library world a mere concept to me when I started school, but a library school-specific blog? I had no idea what to expect. How was this a thing?

I think a lot of us just go through the motions of library school, not always questioning what we deserve, what we need, and where we can let go. Sometimes we have to be lazy to survive the burnout. And that’s ok. We don’t have to hack everything perfectly. But how amazing is it that a group of library school students decided to address and assess LIS programs, professionalism, specific specialties, experiences, trials, and tribulations?

As you can see, I’ve been honored to be a part of this amazing group of writers and editorial team to continually engage students in their professional life. I did enter library school being fairly confident I wanted to work in academic libraries. And I’m grateful that I have been able to fulfill that goal with my position at UCLA. And I am glad that I embarked on a (mostly) face-to-face program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I mean the mostly part. Some of the online courses I have taken have not only been terrific, but I have preferred them based on the instructors. I was also able to start my new job before I graduated because of the flexibility to finish my degree online.

This is my shortest post. Most of what I have to offer here is gratitude for the process and progress of this blog. For the teamwork and creative juices. And for those who take the time to read the perspectives of library students 🙂
